University Chorale is the largest choir at CWU and is open to all students without audition. Vocal technique, music literacy, ear training, music education, and performance are emphasized and the group typically consists of 90-120 singers.
Repertoire varies from all historical periods and styles, and special emphasis is placed on repertoire that can be used in music education/public school teaching applications.
Occasionally, Chorale will join forces with Chamber Choir to perform collaborative masterworks with orchestra (Handel's "Messiah", Beethoven's 9th Symphony, etc.). The primary teaching lab for choral music education majors, Chorale offers a fun atmosphere combined with high musicality, a wide variety of choral music, and collegiate level performance.
Typically, one-half of Chorale are music majors (many are instrumentalists who like to sing) and the other half come from all over campus in all disciplines.....this creates a unique and eclectic musical experience!
The chorale rehearses four hours weekly, one hour each from Monday to Thursday. Independent musicianship, knowledge about the voice, and high artistic standards are all important tenets of Professor Singh’s philosophy for the group.
