Music Fundamentals Course

This is a requirement for all incoming Freshman who do NOT score 75% or better on the Fundamental Placement Exam.

  • This is an on-line course consisting of multiple lessons that can be taken from home over a period of approximately 6-8 weeks. It must be completed by the Monday of the first week of classes.
  • The Music Fundamentals Course cost is $99.95. Since each CWU credit costs more than $99, it is well worth the cost as it is much cheaper than taking a 3-credit course at CWU.
  • CWU will have access to the results of your course. If the student scores a "B", or better, in the course, they will be enrolled in their selected MUS 144 section.
  • If you do not achieve a passing score, you must register and re-take the Course until you pass.

How do you take the course?

  1. Go to:
  2. Click the "OnMusic Fundamentals third edition" icon, which is about the fifth row down.
  3. Place order for "OnMusic Fundamentals third edition", not the blackboard version
  4. Once the order has been placed and the payment has been processed, you will receive a serial number/access code via e-mail to register for the Placement Exam.
  5. Enter the following information:
    • School: Central Washington University
    • Instructor: Kirsten Boldt-Neurohr
    • Semester: Sum2020
    • Course: MUS – 198-001
    • Enter your access code
    • Fill in remaining information and Click submit.

Scoring a B or better will automatically enroll you in MUS 144.
