For New Clarinet Students
In order to complete your acceptance into the CWU Department of Music program, you must audition for the music faculty. This gives us an opportunity to hear the level you have achieved in your musical skills and it gives you the opportunity to discuss your development with collegiate instructors.
For your audition we recommend the following:
- Select music which best displays your performance level.
- We strongly recommend you prepare your audition material under the supervision of your private teacher and/or music director.
Requirements:
| CLARINET: | |
|---|---|
| 1. Major scales, at least 2 octaves | |
| 2. Two contrasting selections. For example, a quick and a slow etude from the 32 Etudes by C. Rose, a fast and slow movement from a sonata or concerto, etc.; | |
| 3. Sight reading may be required |
Performance majors should prepare three works to include 20th century and earlier styles.
Admission Audition times must be arranged directly with Dr. Florie Rothenberg. She can be reached by calling the Dept. of Music at 509-963-1216 or by email at rothenberg@cwu.edu. Auditions should be scheduled during our annual Audition Days, in January, or by appointment with Dr. Rothenberg.
