Dr. Todd Shiver
Welcome to the Central Washington University Music Department web site! Central’s Music Department has earned a reputation for being one of the top university music departments in the northwest. We have earned this reputation by building a magnificent facility to house the department (see for yourself on our facilities page); we have music faculty members who are actively involved in their profession and who are recognized as the region’s top music educators and conductors. Central Washington’s ensembles have been invited to perform at state, regional, national, and international venues. Our list of ensembles includes a Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir, University Choir and smaller ensembles that includes four Jazz Bands, three Jazz Choirs, Men’s and Women’s choirs, Jazz Combos, and choirs for Brass, Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba/Euphonium, and Percussion ensembles. Our vocal students also have opportunities to perform in opera scenes or full opera productions. With all of this to offer, the Central Washington University Music Department attracts top student musicians from around the country and abroad.
With over 400 majors, our students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of degrees in music that include the Bachelor of Music degree in music performance, music education, composition and the Bachelor of Arts degree in music and in jazz. The department also has a graduate program that offers the Master Degree in music, and music education. For a complete listing of our degrees and more detailed information on each please take a look at our degrees page.
Our music faculty are remarkable for their reputations and accomplishments; browse through the Faculty Directory and see for yourself. This year we would like to welcome several new faculty members to our community: Dr. Martin Kennedy will be teaching music theory and directing our composition program, Dr. Melissa Scheil will be teaching voice, diction and vocal pedagogy, and Mr. Colin Wilson will be teaching saxophone.
