The Kittitas Valley Youth Orchestra (KVYO) is the premiere ensemble of the CWU Preparatory Strings Program. Students of this ensemble are accomplished musicians who, by audition, have displayed the technical and artistic talent necessary to be a productive member of an orchestral ensemble. A full orchestra (consisting of wind, brass, and percussion players as well as strings), the repertoire of KVYO seeks to provide students valuable experience through the exploration of the rich heritage of symphonic literature. With this in mind, class structure is intended to combine elements of musical pedagogy with those of a professional orchestra's rehearsal.
The artistic purpose of each orchestra in the Prep Program is to foster musical, technical, and artistic skills. More importantly, we seek to build the self-confidence of each student as he or she discovers and develops skills and abilities to contribute to the success of a team.
