November 17-18, 2020

The CWU Fall Choral Classic Invitational Festival will take place in the wonderful acoustical environment of CWU's Dr. Wayne S. Hertz Concert Hall. Each of the 2 days is identical, with 12 choirs per day.

The Fall Choral Classic is a non-competitive festival designed to enhance open and honest exchange between the clinicians, the conductor and the students. Participation by school groups is by invitation only.

All invited choirs are expected to arrive and be seated by 8:30 a.m. and remain for the duration of the festival, which ends with a one hour showcase final concert concluding by 6:00 p.m.

Invitations are extended to choirs from throughout the northwest which have gained a reputation of excellence. The only two awards which are given focus on positivity and caring, rather than musical prowess. We know how early it is in the year, and hope this festival provides motivation to get out of the starting blocks quickly, while motivating singers to work hard for a successful school year.

The day includes watching 3 highly experienced clinician/judges work with the choirs, and five CWU choral ensembles performing - 3 before lunch and two on the final host concert.

The entry fee is $300

Inside concert hall2019 Adjudicator/Clinicians (2020 TBA)

  • Dr. Leslie Guelker-Cone - Retired from Western Washington University
  • Mr. Kirk Marcy - Edmonds Community College
  • Dr. Tim Westerhaus - Gonzaga University

Each school has 25 minutes on stage.. Choirs are encouraged to plan 10-15 minutes of music. This allows one of the adjudicators to spend 10-15 minutes on stage with the group making suggestions. Directly following is a 25 minute clinic in another room with a second clinician.

Video and audio recordings are made of both the performance and clinic.
