Dr. Todd Shiver became Chair of the Central Washington University (CWU) Music Department fall 2010. As the department chair he oversees the administration of over 400 music students, 27 Full time Faculty members, 18 adjunct faculty members and 6 staff members.  He serves as a member of the CWU Service and Activities committee, the University Waiver committee and ADCO.  He recently served as the Chair of the Northwest region for the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) where he is a member of the board of directors. He was recently elected as the President of the Washington Universities Music Administrators (WUMA).

Dr. Shiver came to CWU from Georgia College & State University (GCSU) where he served as interim chair of the music department for two years and director of bands for 20 years. As the interim chair he oversaw the administration of a thriving music department. As the director of bands at Georgia College he conducted the Concert Band, Jazz Band, and served as the faculty advisor for the Basketball Pep Band. His bands served as musical ambassadors for the University by performing throughout the Southeastern U.S. and in Europe. His GCSU bands featured internationally known guest artist like retired Marine Band conductor Col. John Bourgeois, jazz trumpeters Byron Stripling and Bobby Shew, jazz trombonist Bill Watrous, jazz woodwind specialist Chris Vadala, and composers like Steven Reineke and David Holsinger. Under his direction, in the spring of 2003 and 2007 the GCSU Jazz Band went on a month long tour of the Czech Republic where they performed at the Letohrad International Music Festival and the Tyniste Jazz Festival.

In addition to his background in administration and conducting, Dr. Shiver has experience teaching courses in music education, conducting, brass methods, applied trumpet, and supervising student teachers. He is also the founder of the GCSU and CWU summer music camps. Dr. Shiver has served as guest conductor for honor bands, and has served as an adjudicator for festivals and competitions throughout the southeast. Prior to teaching at the university level, Dr. Shiver also has experience teaching at the middle school and high school levels.

His professional memberships include the Washington Music Educators Association, past member of the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) where he has held office at both the District and State levels. Dr. Shiver has also served as the State Treasurer for the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators (GAJE) for six years. In addition to holding office with GMEA and GAJE, he has helped organize and host events like the GAJE State High School Jazz Clinic, GMEA Solo and Ensemble, and All-State Auditions. He also served on the board of directors for the National Band Association as the jazz activities chair for four years; he is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Dr. Shiver holds both the Bachelors Degree of Music and the Masters Degree of Music Education from Auburn University, a second Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia College & State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education with a minor in Trumpet Performance from The University of Georgia.

Dr. Shiver is married to Dr. Janet Shiver, who teaches in the CWU math department, and they have three children Andrew, Justin, and Morgan.
