CWU’s Men's Choir! is one of the Department’s most energetic groups and is open to any man who likes to sing, with no audition necessary.
The group reflects the CWU Choirs’ stated philosophy that at Central there is a choir for anyone who likes to sing. Further, the Men’s Choir prides itself on maintaining a supportive, welcoming atmosphere to everyone from guys who have never sung to those guys majoring in voice performance. Its ranks typically include about half each of music and non-music majors.
The CWU Men’s Choir! performed for the Washington Music Educators Association conference in Yakima in February of 2014 to great acclaim. In the spring of 2014, over 60 men sang with the group. Rehearsals are held at noon on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays in the Choir Room.
Repertoire ranges from traditional sea shanties and drinking songs to Renaissance music and includes a healthy dose of multicultural music as well. This variety of repertoire is designed to introduce the men to the incredible wealth of men’s voice music, with the added goal of entertaining the audience.
The guys enjoy the special camaraderie which comes from singing music which utilizes the many facets of the male voice. As with all CWU choirs, an emphasis is put on building musicianship, learning about the voice, and furthering one’s individual skills.
