Currently, Mr. Peacock is in the final stages of a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington. Mr. Peacock’s research interests are varied and include projects in the areas of low brass pedagogy and performance as well as jazz performance, theory and composition. Curtis recently became the first tubist to win the Seattle Ladies Musical Club Classical Solo Competition.
His innovative jazz trio, RetroPotential was featured at the 2010 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference where they officially released their first self-titled CD. Reviewer Richard Perry stated that Peacock’s performance of the classical showpiece, Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms as a finale was “an impressive feat, indeed.” The full written review of this performance can be found in the Fall 2010 International Tuba and Euphonium Association Journal. RetroPotential will release their second album in the Fall of 2011. More information is available at RetroPotential.com. In addition to performing with RetroPotential, Mr. Peacock also regularly performs with Brass Central, the CWU Faculty Brass Quintet and Tubaluba, a Seattle funk brass band. Curtis’ mentors include Sam Pilafian Patrick Sheridan and Christopher Olka.
Currently, Mr. Peacock is preparing for a fall tour of Western Washington in September which will conclude with a performance on Seattle’s KING FM Radio on the evening of Sept. 16th. Curtis is also composing his Concerto for tuba which will be premiered in Seattle by the University of Washington Wind Ensemble under the direction of Tim Salzman on March 6th, 2012.
