McNair Scholars


To be considered for admission to the McNair Scholars Program, please fill in the information below as completely and accurately as possible.

If you are neither a US citizen, nor a permanent resident, then you are not eligible to participate in the McNair Scholars Program.
Please provide the names, email addresses and phone numbers of the faculty members you have asked to write your letters of recommendation. The recommenders should be people familiar with your academic progress and goals. They will need to fill out a recommendation form, available below in MS Word or interactive PDF formats, and submit signed paper copies to the McNair Scholars Office (Hertz 109) at Mail Stop 7516.

Personal Statement
Upload your personal statement (as MS Word or PDF file) that answers the following questions: 1. Why do you want to pursue a Ph.D.? 2. What are your short- and long-term career goals? 3. How can the McNair Scholars Program assist you in attaining those goals? 4. What specific research area would interest you the most? Discuss a possible research topic and mentor/professor with whom you would like to work. 5. Describe a personal example that shows your persistence and commitment to academic endeavors.
Non-CWU Transcripts
We will access and review your CWU CAPS Report as part of your application review. However, if you have attended any other colleges or universities, and are a transfer student applying in your first term at CWU, you can provide an unofficial copy of your transfer transcripts. Your file size must be 4MB or less (PDF, JPG, TIF). If you are unsure how to upload your transcript, you may drop off a hard copy at the McNair Office in Hertz 109.
* By submitting your application to the email below, you affirm that all financial and educational information listed above in this application is true and correct. You understand that any misrepresentation or false statement will make the applicant ineligible for the McNair Program. Furthermore, if accepted into this program, you agree to provide your social security number as required for federal reporting and monitoring requirements; to participate in all required McNair events; and to inform the CWU McNair Program of changes in your academic program or degree plans, at CWU and as you progress through graduate school. Lastly, I hereby give permission to the CWU McNair Scholars Program to access my transcripts and financial aid information as provided by the CWU Registrar’s Office and the CWU Office of Financial Aid.
