Chemistry Graduate Orellana Receives Distinguished Thesis Award

Ms. Shirley Orellana, who graduated with her Master of Science degree in Chemistry June 2018, received the Dale and Mary Jo Comstock Distinguished Thesis Award for her thesis "Geographic Classification of Wines Using Their Elemental and Water Isotopic Composition." Nominated by her mentor, Dr. Anne Johansen, Ms. Orellana is researching the topic of "Fingerprinting" Washington Wines.

Along with an award of $1,000, Ms. Orellana was honored at the Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony and will be eligible to be nominated for the Western
Association of Graduate Schools Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award.
