MPA Program

The Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) program at Central Washington University is a program designed to help you meet new challenges in your accounting career.

Effective Fall 2008, business courses taken to fulfill the requirements for the graduate degree from the CWU College of Business must have been taken within the past 10 years at the time of graduation. Exceptions may be made, but must be approved prior to acceptance into the College of Business by the department chair and dean or designee.

Program Overview

The Department of Accounting offers a Master of Professional Accountancy degree. We help our students enter the public accounting profession by developing the entry-level knowledge and skills expected by the profession in the areas of auditing and attestation, financial accounting and reporting, regulation, business environment and concepts, and writing.

Students are only admitted to the program for a Fall Quarter start. Students may complete a one-year or a two-year cohort.

The program is a 46 credit-hour program (quarter system). You should be able to complete the program in one academic year if you:

  • Have an undergraduate degree in accounting.
  • Enroll as a full-time student (3 courses per term), and
  • Are not employed fulltime.

The MPA program satisfies the fifth-year education requirement adopted to date by 48 states, including the State of Washington, for licensure as a CPA and by the AICPA as a requirement for membership. Any individual sitting for the first time for the CPA examination in Washington must have completed a minimum of five years college-level education.
