Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the deadline for applying to the MPA Program?

While the Office of Graduate Studies and Research has a Priority Application date of February 1, the MPA Program has a rolling admissions process. We will process completed applications until the program is full, but not later than August 1 for fall quarter admission.

2. When can I start the program?

You must start the program during a fall quarter. No MPA admissions are made for winter, spring, or summer quarter starts.

3. When are courses offered?

Courses are offered in the evenings during fall, winter, and spring quarters. No MPA courses are offered during the summer. Each course is offered on either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule.

4. Where are the courses offered?

Courses are broadcast via live interactive television education among the Ellensburg, Des Moines, and Lynnwood campuses.

5. Do I need to complete the program in one year?

If you have completed your bachelor's degree in accounting, you can complete your MPA program in one year or two years. The one year program consists of taking three courses per quarter for three quarters. For the two year plan, it is probably best to take two courses per quarter the first year, so that you have time during the second year to prepare for professional certification examinations such as the CPA exam.

6. What major factors are considered for admission?

Grade point average and GMAT scores are the primary factors used to make admissions decisions.

7. Do I need to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)?

You must take the GMAT (http://www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT) to be considered for admission, although this requirement may be waived if you earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from a university in the State of Washington, with a GPA of 3.25 or higher in your upper division accounting courses. When you register for the GMAT, make certain that you select the Central Washington University Master of Professional Accountancy Program as one of the recipients of your scores. Official scores must be sent directly from GMAT to Central Washington University.

8. Do I need to have a minimum score on the GMAT?

Yes. You must have a GMAT score of 500 for admission into the program.

9. Do I need to have a minimum GPA?

Yes. You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher for full admission into the MPA Program. If your GPA is less than a 3.0, you may be accepted on a probationary basis. You would then have one quarter in which to earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher in MPA courses, in order to earn full admission.

10. Do I need to submit a TOEFL score?

If English is your second language and you did not receive a bachelor's degree from an accredited United Stated college, you will need to submit either a TOEFL or an IELTS score.

11. What is the minimal TOEFL score acceptable for admission?

The minimum acceptable TOEFL scores are 213 computer based and 79 internet based. The minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5
