Call for Cover Design, Manastash 2014

Call for Design, Manastash 2014
Manastash, the CWU student literary journal, is seeking a cover design for the 2014 edition. This design will be selected by the journal's editorial staff.

Manastash is scheduled to publish in May 2014. Three finalists will be selected by the end of winter quarter. The final selection will be made early in spring quarter.

Submission Details
Before beginning your design, download the Cover_Template_2014.zip (InDesign) file available below.

Submissions must be submitted electronically as zipped InDesign packages. Each package must include fonts, images, and other relevant files. If images are included, they should have a printing resolution of 300 dpi, saved as CMYK. In addition, you should have copyright ownership of all work and images (if you have purchased an image from a stock gallery, please include relevant information to verify printing authorization).

Remember to include a 0.125” full bleed (marked on the template).

In addition, your package should contain a PDF proof of your cover. This will be used as a preview for the selection process.
By submitting a design, you are releasing any copyright privileges of the design to be used in the 2014 Manastash publication.

Selection Process
All entries must be submitted by 3:00 p.m., January 31, 2014, for consideration.

Entries will be blind-reviewed by the students of English 484: Manastash Literary Editing course on or around March 6, 2014. Three finalists will be selected. The published cover will be chosen by the English 484: Manastash Design course by April 10, 2014.

Cover selection will consider asthetic quality (concept, creativity, and execution), appropriateness to the publication (what best matches the editorial content), preference of the majority of the editorial/design staff (based on secret votes and discussion), and print-worthiness (completeness of the InDesign package).

The selection process includes an initial secret voting process, which will narrow candidates to the top three candidates. An extended conversation will lead to a second voting process to select the cover. In case of tie, the course instructor will cast the determining vote.
