President's Message: Raise Your Hand High

Dear Alumni,

At CWU, student success is the measure and focus of everything we do. We teach young minds to see broadly across time and cultures, and we inspire them to develop a deep and lasting curiosity that will serve them over a lifetime. We watch as some of our nation's best professors—right here on the CWU campus—bring deep meaning to our students' lives. You might recognize yourself in this scenario and know we have succeeded.

Today, Wildcats are cutting amazing new paths across the landscape. You'll see a few of them on the pages of this magazine. There are many more who you won't see here. Our alumni are remarkable people. I've met many of you, and I'm simply in awe of your great gifts and the generosity you show in sharing them.

CWU isn't a big university, and we're proud of that. Our intimate community, small classrooms, and hands-on, real world experiences are the hallmarks of our success. While we have big plans for impressive leaps forward, we also have significant plans to—in some areas—stay exactly the same.

Higher education is facing new times that challenge the very pillars we stand on. Where once CWU relied on state funding for the majority of our operating budget, today, the state only provides 13 percent. We simply must turn to other sources for funding CWU's uncommon formula for human enrichment, cultural prosperity, and achievement.

If we are to sustain, it's time to make some noise. And, without spilling the beans, I will tell you that soon we'll have an opportunity to do just that.

At CWU, we're approaching our 125th anniversary and we're gearing up to celebrate in extraordinary ways. So, stay tuned. When the roll call is taken, will you raise your hand high and join the chorus that sings CWU's praises? When you do, you will be among many remarkable people.

Central needs you. Go online to and share your stories with us, your ideas, achievements, and yes, make a gift to CWU. These are exciting times and we want to count on you when we get set to celebrate one of the most important milestones in CWU history. You can make a difference and help build a strong future for the next generation of 'Cats!
