Learning Commons

Online Consulting

The CWU Learning Commons provides one-on-one  consultations for students in online majors and those enrolled at one of our university centers. There are three types of online appointments available:

1. Email consultations (24-48 hour turn-around): As a university center or online student, you can email a draft of your paper, along with your instructor's directions, to onlinetutoring@cwu.edu for review.  A tutor will read your paper, provide helpful notes in the margin, and will often record a screen-cast video for your review.  The tutor will not edit or correct your paper, nor will he/she predict the grade you will receive; however, our tutors are great at giving constructive feedback that will help you become more confident in your own writing skills.

For all appointment requests, please include your student ID, CWU email address (we will not accept gmail, yahoo, etc.), class standing (junior, senior, etc.), registered campus/online, major, course, and professor.

2. Skype - Please email onlinetutoring@cwu.edu to arrange for a Skype consultation. Our Skype address is CWU-UWC.

3. Live "Online Learning Commons" in Canvas: As an online or university center student, you are automatically enrolled in the "Online Learning Commons" course through your CWU Canvas account. "Live" sessions are conducted using Blackboard Collaborate where you and a tutor can view and discuss your writing via screenshare, video, audio, and/or text-chat. Please log in to the "Online Learning Commons" under your Canvas course list, find the tutors' schedule and drop-in hours in the course calendar/scheduler, then simply drop in to Blackboard Collaborate (in the directory on the left side of the course page) during those times.

During your tutoring session, the Online Learning Commons will request some basic information about your Student ID, campus, languages, and major. If you would like to provide that information prior to your session, please fill out our student information form at bit.ly/OnlineTutoringAppt.
