This endorsement-only program offers a competitive addition for a certified teacher or enrolled teacher candidate who intends to teach math at the middle level (grades 5-9). Completion of this minor and satisfactory score on the WEST-E exam results in a middle-level math endorsement for Washington State.
Offered over three consecutive quarters, students will enroll in two courses per quarter during the spring, summer; and fall to complete their endorsement.
1. Applicants must be either currently enrolled in a CWU Teacher Preparation Program, or hold a valid teaching certificate within one of the following endorsements: Elementary Education, Secondary Math, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science or Biology.
2. Applicants must meet CWU's general education requirements through a community college direct transfer agreement (DTA), bachelor’s degree, or equivalent from any state accredited college or university.
3. Teachers interested in obtaining this endorsement should submit the Endorsement-Only Application found at http://www.cwu.edu/teacher-certification/sites/cts.cwu.edu.teacher-certification/files/documents/EndorsementOnlyApp.doc. Undergraduates must complete the Middle Level Mathematics minor application that can be obtained at the CWU at Kent office.
4. Admission to the CWU at Kent program and successful completion of all prerequisite courses.
Students must complete the prerequisite courses with a grade of "C" or better prior to being admitted to the program.

*Students with a strong high school mathematics preparation should take the Math Placement Exam. According to the result of the exam, students may satisfy the MATH 153, or the MATH 153 and MATH 154 requirement.
