BAEd Elementary Education Major/Middle Level Science Teaching Minor

Central Washington University at Kent offers a teacher certification program designed to fill two unique needs:
1) Washington State's need for teachers who are highly qualified in science,
2) Place-and-time-bound students' need for a local teacher preparation program.

This cohort program is a collaborative partnership among faculty and staff at the CWU main campus, CWU-Des Moines, Green River Community College and local school districts. Students in this program will become elementary and middle school teachers who are leaders in science reform efforts.

The program is six quarters long, consisting of the upper-division courses, (the 3rd and 4th years) of the Bachelor of Arts in Education degree. Classes begin each fall quarter and run continuously, including summer quarter. Students complete the program winter quarter of their final year and are encouraged to use spring quarter to get a jump start searching for permanent employment and/or for substitute teaching.

During fall through spring quarters, classes are held in the late afternoon and early evening, usually between 3:00p.m. - 7:00p.m., although occasionally classes run as late as 9:00p.m. Summer schedules vary and classes may be held at other times during the day. This program is full-time only; therefore, students are discouraged from keeping full-time employment.
