The Wildcat Account and Password

Where it works

Your Wildcat account and password work in the following areas:

Novell, Windows Workstations, Wildcat Connection, Blackboard, Shared & Personal File System Space, GroupWise Email, GroupWise Messenger, PeopleSoft Self Service, VPN Connections, Safari, Wireless, NetStorage, Dial-in Modems, IP Host Registration, Creating Guest Wildcat Accounts, Connection Card Balance, and eHelpDesk (GroupLink).

Don't let it expire!

By order of the university auditor and in compliance with good security measures, passwords must be changed on a regular basis.

For students that means a new one every 180 days; staff must change theirs every 90 days. Passwords will expire after that time period.

IF YOUR PASSWORD HAS EXPIRED, YOU CAN NOT LOG IN. This means you can't check e-mail, grades, etc; GroupWise, Safari, Network access will be denied to you if you let your password expire.

Password etiquette

When changing your password, please remember the following:

Your password must be 8 to 25 characters long and can be a mixture of letters and numbers. You cannot use your name, the word "password", the percent % or bracket [] characters. You need to pick a new password every time.

And most importantly about your password, DON'T GIVE IT OUT! Your password is your responsibility.

If you know your current password

If you know your current password and just need to change it,

From any computer with an internet connection,

  • Click on the Change Password link at the top.

Note the requirements at the top for creating a password.

  • Fill in the fields as appropriate and click the Change Password button at the bottom.

A confirmation page will appear to let you know if the change was successful.

Tip: While you're here, make sure you've setup your security response questions so you can reset your own password later, even if you've forgotten it!

If you don't know your current password

If you've filled out the security questions via the Wildcat Password Self Service page (see above), you can use the “Forgotten Password link” at https://wildcatpassword.cwu.edu

and answer the questions correctly to verify it's you. Once that's done, you'll be given the option to change your password.

If you haven't set up the security questions, you'll need to contact the HelpDesk at x2001 for assistance.

If you know your current password

If you know your current password and just need to change it,

From any computer with an internet connection,

  • Click on the Change Password navigational link on the left side menu.

  • Type in your current password in the first field.
  • Type in a new password of your choosing in the second field and verify by typing it in again in the last field.
  • Click OK.

The new password is effective immediately.

If you don't know your current password

If you don't know your current password but do know your Student ID and PIN, you can change your password here: http://www.cwu.edu/mypassword

This will redirect you to a secure server page where you can change your password.

If you don't know your PIN, you can contact the Registrar's office at x3001 during normal business hours and they can issue you a new one.

Important tip – log back out then log back in

Log out of the Wildcat Connection and log back in with your new password before clicking on any other links. This is because you are currently logged in with your old password but if you try to access any other systems (Safari, etc.) there will be a conflict because of the new password you just created.
