Central Washington University supports the use of Personal Communication Devices (PCD) by employees whose position will benefit from mobile access to CWU email, scheduling, voice service or other data services. Employees approved for use of a PCD have the option of using a CWU provided device where the user's department covers all costs, or using a personally owned device and receiving a monthly allowance paid by the user's department. The option that is most financially beneficial to CWU will be approved. To request either option, please:

  • Read the PCD Policy and PCD Procedure.
  • Complete the PCD Approval Form. Forward the completed form to Information Technology Services/Telecom.
  • When the final approval is granted by ITS, the authorization information will be returned to the user.
  • If you are authorized for a CWU provided PCD, the ITS Department will contact you to order your PCD and complete the process.
  • If you are authorized for an allowance for a personally owned device:
    • Android, iPhone, Windows users: Configure the PCD in accordance with instructions.
    • Blackberry users: Contact the ITS-Telecom Services and make an appointment to have your Blackberry setup and configured.

SPECIAL NOTE TO ANDROID USERS:
The Android Operating System is an open source solution that is used by numerous PCD manufacturers (i.e. Motorola, Samsung, HTC, and others). Each manufacturer is able to modify the operating system to their specifications, which may result in difficulty interfacing the device to CWU's MobilityPak software. Therefore, we are unable to guarantee that all Android PCDs will be supported.

PCD - SUPPORTED PERSONALLY OWNED DEVICES

SUPPORTED PERSONALLY OWNED DEVICES: There are numerous PCDs on the market. CWU support three plan levels as outlined below:

  1. VOICE ONLY: For individuals requesting only voice service, any device and any carrier is acceptable. The current monthly allowance for voice-only service is outlined in the PCD Procedure, and is updated annually based on market costs and usage.

  2. VOICE AND DATA SERVICE: For individuals requesting voice and data service (but not requesting the extended service), any device is acceptable. The current monthly allowance for this service level is outlined in the PCD Procedure, and is updated annually based on market costs and usage.

  3. VOICE AND DATA SERVICE (with Extended Data Service): Individuals requesting extended data service (which includes push/pull connectivity to CWU's Email Services) must use one of the following PCD Operating Systems:
    • iPHONE (iPhone Operating System) via MobilityPak
    • ANDROID (Android Operating System) via MobilityPak
    • BLACKBERRY (Research in Motion Operating System) via Blackberry Enterprise Service (BES)
    • WINDOWS (Windows Operating System) via MobilityPak
