I love sales, I love the retail world, and I look forward to sharing lessons I’ve learned with our students. Although I’ve spent my life training, and educating people within the professional world, I really never considered a career in education. In 2008, I was recruited by CWU to teach RMT340 “Principles of Professional Selling,” and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this new direction I’ve taken. It’s very exciting to see students learn skills that will benefit them throughout their lifetime.
I’m an Oregon State Beaver, with degrees in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, and Behavioral Sciences. In addition, I have several professional certifications ranging from a certification to teach online classes to being certified to teach welding.
I don’t consider myself to be a traditional academic, in any way, shape, or form. I teach from the perspective of what it takes to be successful in the professional world. I teach reality! My sales and industry experience spans several decades, working with, and for, a wide variety of small, medium, large, and very large businesses, ranging from sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations, to several entrepreneurial ventures that I continually pursue.
First, and foremost, I consider myself a sales professional. I’m also a businessperson, and entrepreneur. I truly believe that sales is the most exciting occupation in the world! Helping others get what they want is extremely satisfying, and if you help enough people get what they want, you’ll get what you want. In today’s world, we’re all salespeople each and every day. For most of my career, I helped organizations grow.
Today, I’m just as excited about developing our next generation of IT and business professionals. ITAM is the perfect venue to do exactly this. ITAM focuses on blending tech skills with soft skills, which is in very high-demand by employers these days. The skills I teach will help students in their mission to be employable, not for just any job, but for the position and career they hope, and dream, to achieve.
