Exchange Programs are a type of Study Abroad Program in which students enroll directly in the host institution by “switching” places with a student from a partner university. Students on exchange pay a program fee that is based on CWU tuition (housing costs are generally paid directly to the partner university). This type of experience is ideal for students who are seeking the challenge of a full-immersion experience abroad. Many sites have a limited number of placements and can be quite competitive; therefore, students are encouraged to list alternative choices when applying. Programs are mainly available during the Academic School Year, but a few Summer options do exist.
Central Exchanges are different from NSE and ISEP as they are hosted through Central Washington University and the entire application process is though our office. These programs are especially independent and were created to immerse students in the host country and foster understanding of foreign cultures. Most universities only have placements for a few students, so it is competitive. Students pay a program fee based on the cost of in-state tuition, mandatory student fees and SAEP administrative costs. Housing is usually paid directly to the host university.
