The Campus Friends component of the Asia University America Program (AUAP) started in the early 1990s. It is intended to give AUAP students an opportunity to interact with CWU students. It is also meant to give Central students a better understanding of Japanese culture. The Campus Friends program has been an exciting and rewarding experience for hundreds of Central and AUAP students. Campus Friends meet each other at least once or twice a week and enjoy a variety of activities together!
The Japanese students participating in the Campus Friends program are eager to learn about American college life here at CWU and to meet and interact with American students and their friends. Please try to include them in a variety of activities on campus as well as your everyday activities.

Do not feel that you need to organize special outings or events to do together. Most students simply want to be included in regular every day activities. Going to the movies or to college sports events, playing tennis or other sports, sharing a meal in the dining halls or just hanging out and talking are all good activities. Many of the students enjoy cooking and may enjoy cooking a Japanese meal for you and your family or friends. In any case, please try to get together with your students about 2 or 3 times per week throughout the course of the program. We also actively encourage the AUAP students to invite their Campus Friends to join them in events or activities that they are involved with here at CWU.
