CWU has a zero-tolerance position on all forms of discrimination, harassment, and other inappropriate workplace behavior. In order to highlight the importance of this, the University's stance is that all university employees partake in mandatory trainings, which includes student employees.

The training courses below are required (CWU Policy 2-30-260).

  • Faculty Onboarding Online Course (45 min)

    Description: This onboarding course is to welcome new faculty, help them acclimate to the work environment at CWU, and provide them with the necessary resources and information they need to start contributing to the mission of CWU.

  • Supervising for Academic Department Chairs

    Description: This online course provides an overview of the roles and responsibilities of Department Chairs that supervise staff at CWU. This course enhances supervisory skills by reviewing CWU’s performance management, conflict management strategies, progressive discipline, hiring practices, types of leave, the electronic Time and Attendance system and required trainings at CWU.

    When to Take

    - As soon as you become a Chair who supervises employees

Additional for Supervisors

  • Leadership Foundation Certificate

    Employees, including faculty members, appointed to supervisor or management positions must successfully complete entry-level supervisory or managerial training within six (6) months of the date of appointment to a supervisor or manager position.

    The entry-level supervisory or managerial training requirement may be accomplished by earning the Leadership Foundation Certificate.

    When to Complete

    - Within 6 months of becoming a supervisor

    How to Satisfy Requirement

    1. Complete Supervisor Quick Start (30 min) - within first 30 days.
    2. Attend Emotional Intelligence for CWU Supervisors (16 hours) - offered every quarter.

    1. Choose 8 hours of additional Supervisor Enrichment Program (SEP) training.

    Options:

    • Choose from supervisory-level courses in CLA Online's Supervisor Enrichment Program (SEP)

    1. Once you’ve completed training, fill out the Leadership Foundation Certificate Completion Form.

  • Student Employment Onboarding Course (1 hour)

    Description: This onboarding course is to welcome new student employees, help them acclimate to the work environment at CWU, and provide them with the necessary resources and information they need to start contributing to the mission of CWU.

  • FERPA (30 min - 1 hour, depending on mode of instruction)

    Description: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) outlines the rights of students and their families with respect to the confidentiality of and access to education records kept by institutions. This course will provide employees of postsecondary educational institutions awareness-level training on their responsibilities and obligations under FERPA.

    When to Take

    - For those who have access to student records, take every year

    Where to find

    Two enrollment options:

    2. Instructor-led WebEx session (1 hour):

    The Onboarding for Temporary/Hourly Employees course will prepare you for your new role by covering the following:

    • The Wildcat Way
    • Important policies such as Sexual Harassment, Equal Opportunity, and Alcohol and Other Drugs
    • University safety
    • Resources and opportunities that are available to temporary employees
    • Ethics
    • Benefits eligibility
    • Where to go for help…and more

    ** This course will take you approximately 45-60 minutes to complete and replaces the need to read the Equal Opportunity Guidelines and University Safety Overview listed above.
