Finding Available Jobs

How do I find out what jobs are available?
A listing of all available positions can be accessed from the Human Resources page by clicking on the "Job Opportunities" box, then the " Staff, Administrative, and Faculty Jobs" link, and then by clicking on the link entitled "Search Job Postings." You may then refine your search by Position Title, Hiring Department, or Job Category. If you wish to view ALL open positions, leave all search fields at "ANY" and click the SEARCH button. If you are interested in temporary and/or student employment, click on those links instead of " Staff, Administrative, and Faculty Jobs."

What if I do not have a computer or access to the web?
There are a number of ways you can still get access to our on-line employment site:

  • The main lobby of the Human Resources Department has computers available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (Located in Bouillon Hall room 140) at 400 E University Way, Ellensburg, WA. Please call for an appointment (963-1202) if you need help applying for a job using the online system.
  • Public computers are also available at the CWU Library and generally most public libraries or WorkSource Offices in Washington State. The unemployment offices for other states may have a similar system that will allow you to use their computers.

Creating an Application

Where can I submit an application?
Applications are only accepted via our on-line application system. Completed applications may be submitted for any of the open positions listed on the Search Postings page--simply click on "apply for this position." You may be required to attach a resume, letter of application, references, or other documentation. You must also answer any Position Specific Questions (if applicable).

Can someone help me complete the on-line application?
Human Resources staff members are available to help applicants get started and to answer questions. E-mail the Human Resources Department or call (509) 963-1202. If you would like a Human Resources staff member to help you apply using the online system, please call for an appointment.

How long does it take to complete the on-line application?
The time it takes depends on several factors including the amount of work experience and education you have to enter, how fast you can type, etc. In general, you should allow 30-45 minutes for the total process. However, you can speed up the process by collecting important information about previous work experience, education, certifications, etc., before you start creating your application. If you find you are missing a piece of information requested on the application, you may be able to skip the field and go back later to complete it. If you decide to do this, it is important that you return and complete the missing information BEFORE you apply for a specific job opening. The information on your application will be used to evaluate your qualifications for the job opening for which you apply. Make sure your application is accurate and contains all information requested before you submit it.

Please note: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE YOUR APPLICATION AFTER YOU FINISH APPLYING AND RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION NUMBER.

Can I save my application before I finish completing it?
The application does not have to be completed all in one session. You must click the "Confirm" button on the final page of the application to save the information you have entered. If you exit the on-line application site, close your Internet browser, or lose your Internet connection before clicking "Confirm," your data will not be saved and you will have to start over. If you cannot finish the entire application in one session, you may find it helpful to complete just the required fields (indicated by a red asterisk) and proceed to "Confirm." You are then able to log in at any time to complete and/or edit the application.

Please note: Your on-line session will time out after 60 minutes of inactivity. To be active, you must be communicating with the web server (clicking buttons, tabs, etc.). Typing information into fields on a page is NOT a communicating activity. If your session times out, your information will be lost if you have not saved it.

top

Who will see my application if I use the on-line application system?
Your application is uploaded to a secure web server and will be available to the Human Resources Department and the hiring department/search committee for the specific job you apply to. Central Washington University does not share its database with other companies or localities.

Will I be able to attach my resume or letter of application?
You will be asked to attach (i.e., "upload") a resume and/or letter of application only if the application process for a specific position requires you to do so. If the position does require these documents, you will come to an "Attach Document(s)" screen during the application process. The directions will prompt you to do one of two things:

  • Attach a resume, letter of application and references
  • Copy and paste or type in a resume, letter of application and references

Please note:
You cannot attach additional materials that are not required. Additional materials are appropriate to bring to an on-campus interview, should you be selected to participate in that process.
AND
You must attach the exact number of documents specified by the posting. If you do not attach all the required documents, your application will be incomplete and will not be considered.

top

Do I have to fill out the "Work Experience" and "Education" pages if I plan on attaching my resume at the end of the process?
Yes, you must complete the "Work Experience" and "Education" pages because your resume does not take the place of an application.

top

When/how can I make changes to my application?
Changes can be made to your general information (such as address, phone number, education, work history, etc.) at any time. However, once you have submitted an application for a specific position, you cannot go back and make changes to that application. Any changes you make to your general information will be included on new positions for which you apply.

  • Using the on-line application site, login using your username and password.
  • Looking at the menu bar on the left side of the computer screen, click on "Manage Application(s)" and then choose the application you wish to update.
  • Make the desired changes to your information
  • REMEMBER to save each page and select the "Confirm" button prior to exiting.
  • The next time you apply for a position, your revised application will be submitted.

Please note: If you find that you do need to update your contact information after you have submitted your application, please contact the Human Resources Department by E-mail or call (509) 963-1202.

Applying For an Open Position

How do I apply for a job?
The application process has five steps:

  • Create a login user name and password. Be sure to remember these or make note of them as they will enable you to come back and access your application to make changes, apply for additional positions, and to check on the status of a position.
  • Create your on-line application - this can be done at any time. You may also search open positions before creating the on-line application.
  • Apply your on-line application to a specific job opening. Throughout the process it is important that you read and follow all instructions carefully.
  • Respond to any position-specific questions. These questions typically require a text response or a response via "radio" button where you will select one response out of several options.
  • Upload any required and/or optional documents such as your resume, letter of application and/or contact information for references.

How soon will I hear something?

Hiring departments will contact applicants they wish to interview.

Can I apply for more than one job at a time?

Using the on-line application system, you can login using your user name and password. Looking at the left side menu bar, click on "Application Status." You will see one of four status notes next to each position for which you applied:

  • In Process - Position is still open and based on your skills/qualifications, you may or may not be contacted for an interview;
  • No Longer Under Consideration - You are not being hired for the position. The position may still be open but you didn't meet the minimum qualifications; other candidates had more relevant experience; or another candidate may have been hired; etc.
  • Position Filled - You are not being hired for the position; the position has already been filled by another applicant.
  • Canceled - CWU is not filling the position at this time and the search has been canceled.

In the event that you forget or misplace your username or password, you may contact Human Resources at: (509) 963-1202. Please provide us with your full name and address. The online system has a prompt to assist you in resetting your password.

You may also log in and answer the secret question you identified when you first created your application. Once you have answered your question correctly, you will be logged into the system and may change your password at that time.
