Since June 7, 1996, all new exempt employees are in the Sick Leave Accrual Plan. Time is submitted on buff-colored "REQUEST FOR OR REPORT OF ABSENCE" form.

2. Converted to Sick Leave Accrual Plan

In June 1996, all Exempt employees chose either to convert to the Sick Leave Accrual (SLA) Plan or to remain in the Disability Leave Plan.

Those who converted to the Sick Leave Accrual Plan had a "Disability Leave Bank" established:

  • 1232 hours for Exempt employees with four or more years of service.
  • 704 hours for Exempt employees with less than four years of service.

Those with a "Disability Leave Bank" must:

  • Deplete all Sick Leave before using the "Disability Leave Bank."

3. Disability Leave Plan

In June 1996, all Exempt employees chose either to convert to the Sick Leave Accrual Plan or to remain in the Disability Leave Plan.

The Disability Leave Plan (DLP) only provides time away from work for the employee's own incapacity to perform regular duties as a result of an accident, physical or mental illness, or pregnancy. Disability Leave cannot be used for family member illness or medical appointments.

For employees totally off work, the DLP provides:

  • Four months of leave with full pay,
  • The following six months with half pay,
  • The following nine months with no pay,
  • Retention of full employment status throughout.

Time submitted on buff-colored "Request for or Report of Absence" form, and sent to Human Resources.
