William O. Douglas Honors College LLC Location - Barto Hall

General Description of the LLC:

Students admitted into the Douglas Honors College are eligible to live in this LLC. The DHC LLC Peer Mentors and Community Programmer work collaboratively with the DHC faculty and staff to build a vibrant academic and residential community of scholars. Students enage in a number of activities that enhance their work in the classroom, such as informal discussions with DHC professors and guest lectures, but they also explore explore extracurricular interests with games and cultural events. 

William O. Douglas Honors College Mission Statement:

The William O. Douglas Honors College Living and Learning Community commits to creating intentional and engaging experiences which integrate the Honors College curriculum with the students' residential life.

William O. Douglas Honors College Vision Statement:

Through collaborations with faculty and staff, the DHC LLC will promote a spirit of discovery and open exchange of ideas in all disciplines to foster leadership, civic engagement, critical inquiry through undergraduate research, and academic rigor to encourage curiosity and innovation in the next generation of citizen scholars.

Goals:

  1. Provide Students with their "home away from home" to ease their transition into college.
  2. Create and establish an open and engaging living community where students feel comfortable taking healthy risks.
  3. Create a community that is known and well-respected across campus.
  4. Create a community that values the importance of service to others.
  5. Increase student retention in both the LLC and the Honors College through the use of DHC leaders and LLC Peer Mentors

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will build a nurturing community through their interactions with their peers in the hall.
  • Students will connect their classroom experiences with their residential living experience.
  • Students will engage with faculty in an informal setting.
  • Students will be able to identify resources on campus.
