The Charles Redd Center-Phi Alpha Theta Book Award for the best book in Western American History (2012-2013) was awarded to Daniel J. Herman, Professor of History at Central Washington University, for his book, Rim Country Exodus: A Story of Conquest, Renewal, and Race in the Making (Tucson: University of Arizona Press, 2012). Professor Herman examines the extraordinary interaction between Indians, settlers, and federal officials in the 19th and 20th centuries in the rim country of Arizona. Significantly, Professor Herman tells a story of survival rather than disappearance. Congratulations Professor Herman!!
