History Major Wins Two Major University Awards

Congratulations to history education major Ryan Gregson for receiving not one but two of the university’s top student awards—the Student Success Dean’s Award, and the College of Arts and Humanities Dean’s Award.

Ryan plans to teach middle school or high school social studies in the future and is also interested and active in leadership training.   An excellent student—he has frequently been on the Dean’s List, Ryan is perhaps best known around the university and the area for his numerous extracurricular activities.  To name just a few, these include Spring Youth Forum, serving as a CWU Student Ambassador, developing youth camps in Guam, running numerous leadership workshops, conferences, and seminars, hosting a leadership camp for Kittitas County high school students and founding an academic mentorship program in area high schools.  Most notably, Ryan has been named an Oxfam International Change Leader for 2012-2013, and is heavily involved in Oxfam’s GROW initiative, a program combating childhood hunger worldwide.   In the immediate future Ryan hopes to the travel to the Sahel region of northern Africa in order to work in aid programs battling the effects of drought and famine in the region.

As a department and a university we are so proud of Ryan!  Join us all in congratulating him on these two well-deserved and prestigious awards.
