What do you know about the health issues facing the majority of the world's population? Are they the same as our regional or national health care needs? Some examples:
- Maternal and child health receives high priority in international health -- much avoidable illness and death is still caused by preventable or treatable childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and respiratory infections.
- Many countries also face great difficulties in dealing with the health consequences of very rapid urbanization, and of war and political instability. They are having to cope with large numbers of refugees and displaced persons, with very limited resources.
- Health service organization, finance, and management are also important areas of international health.
