On October 15, 2012, Alejandro Lee was invited to present "Chino Latinos: Not All Latinos Look the Same" at Columbia Basin College, Pasco, Washington to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The presentations were at 12:30 in English and at 5:30pm in Spanish. The event was organized and sponsored by Martin Valadez, Vice President for Diversity and Outreach.

In collaboration with Dr. Debbie Lee-DiStefano (Southeast Missouri State University) and Dr. Zelideth Rivas (Marshall University), Alejandro Lee co-organized the Symposium on Asians in the Americas at Southeast Missouri State University, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on 28-29 September 2012. Alejandro Lee presented “Recreating the Nation: _Como un mensajero tuyo_ by Mayra Montero.”

Zosha Falteisek, a Spanish teaching major, with minors in Bilingual/TESL and Latino/Latin American Studies, has been selected as a Cultural Ambassador for a second year. She will work in Granada (Andalusia) starting this fall. Congratulations, Zosha!

Alejandro Lee, Spanish, was selected to participate in the first Heritage Teacher Leadership Workshop organized by the National Heritage Language Resource Center (NHLRC) at the University of California, Los Angeles, from 16-22 July 2012. He was also selected to attend the Sixth Heritage Language Research Institute: “From Overhearers to High Proficiency Speakers: Advancing Heritage Learners' Skills” at the University of California, Los Angeles, from 18-22 June 2012.
