They are: Undergraduate Student

Andrés Ramos (Sociology, Spanish and Aviation), along with four classmates from Spanish 346: Spanish for Heritage Learners II, presented on pedagogical strategies in the Heritage language classroom to about forty administrators and teachers of Westside schools, community colleges and universities at the “Heritage Language Learners in the Spanish Classroom” workshop. This faculty development program, sponsored by the Center for Spanish Studies, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the Instituto Cervantes, took place at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle on 2 February 2013. Mr. Ramos and his classmates held a captive audience and received many congratulatory remarks. Well done, Andrés!

Alejandro Lee and five students from his Spanish 346: Spanish for Heritage Learners II class, Estrella Casio, Alejandro Espinoza, Sergio Flores Vélez, Andrés Ramos and Maura Ruiz, were invited to participate in the “Heritage Language Learners in the Spanish Classroom” workshop organized by the Center for Spanish Studies, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the Instituto Cervantes on 2 Feb. 2013 at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle.

Professor Lee and his students presented on pedagogical strategies in the heritage language classroom to about forty administrators and teachers of Westside schools, community colleges and universities.

Alejandro Lee organized and presided the session "Heritage Language Education at the University of Washington" at the Confederation in Oregon for Language Teaching and the Washington Association for Language Teaching Bi-state Conference in Vancouver, Washington, on 12 Oct. 2012. Professors Nyan-Ping Bi, Soohee Kim and Maria Gillman presented on their programs on Chinese, Korean and Spanish for heritage language learners.
