Investigation into the process and practice of urban and regional planning. Emphasis on historical development, legal foundations, and techniques of planning in the United States.

Knowledge and Skills Developed:

  • Knowledge of the history, methods, and institutional context of land use planning in the United States.
  • Awareness of the historical development of urban and regional planning, the fundamental concepts of private property rights and public controls over land use, and relevant local government decision-making structures.
  • Appreciation for the current practices for implementing a land use plan in urban and/or rural settings.
  • Ability to analyze aspects of a typical Comprehensive Plan both in writing and in an oral presentation.
