Geographer honored for a lifetime of achievement

Emeritus faculty member George Macinko was honored as the College of the Sciences Faculty/Staff of the Year at the second annual Celebration of the Sciences on May 15, 2015. In presenting the award, Associate Dean Tim Englund lauded George’s career-long contributions to the university, the college, and the Department of Geography. Tim also emphasized George’s excellence as a scholar-athlete, noting that the former Geography professor had won multiple international master weightlifting championships for his age-weight bracket in the years after his retirement. In Geography, we are also grateful for the generosity of George and his wife in funding the annual Macinko Award (see our Scholarships page).
