The Central Washington Historical Aerial Photograph Project allows researchers to easily locate, view and download photographs from the historical aerial photograph collection of the Department of Geography at Central Washington University. The project covers the Washington State counties of Benton, Douglas, Grant, Kittitas, and Yakima.
We have completed Kittitas County's 1954 and Yakima County’s 1949 coverage with funding from a variety of partners. Our goal is to now complete 1940's or 1950's coverage for adjacent counties in Central Washington. However, to accomplish this, we will need additional funding:
~$1,400 for Benton County (1955);
~$8,600 for Douglas County (1955);
~$48,000 for Grant County (1949);
Once these are complete, we will embark on building complete historical aerial photograph sets for Chelan, Okanogan, and Klickitat counties.
We are actively applying for funding to a variety of private and public sources. If you can help financially, please send your check to the Central Washington Historical Aerial Photograph Project fund in the Geography Department, Central Washington University, 301 Dean Hall, 400 University Way, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
If you know of any funding sources that we may apply to, please contact Dr. Karl Lillquist at lillquis@cwu.edu or (509) 963-1184.
We gratefully acknowledge the following partners for providing funding to purchase photographs for the collection:
