General Education “Old” or “New”?

The choice depends on who you ARE at CWU!

New first-time students starting at CWU in the fall of 2019 will automatically enter under the new General Education program and requirements.

Continuing students have been given an opportunity to switch to the new General Education program by using an eForm in their Student Dashboard on MyCWU. The deadline to switch has now passed. Please contact your assigned advisor or generaleducation@cwu.edu if you have questions.

Transfer students without a Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) who begin taking CWU classes in fall 2019 will have two years to complete the old General Education program if they choose to do so, but will need to petition to be enrolled under the old requirements.* As of fall 2021, all transfer students will be placed under the new General Education program and requirements.* (Students who enter CWU with a DTA have completed General Education requirements.)

Running Start students may choose to complete current General Education requirements or switch to the new Geneneral Education program.* All Running Start students should work closely with an advisor to plan General Education courses.

*Please note: Regardless of their choice, students will be completely under one set of General Education requirements. Students may not mix requirements from the two programs.
