Tutoring Program Begins

Brewster GEAR UP will provide tutoring to students by hiring trained students. Students undergo training by taking a college class at WVC for two credits and must also tutor for 30 hours in a practicum. Students then tutor other students for pay. This encourages students to seek training, college credit and the experience that working with other students provides. Some students in the GEAR UP program from other schools have reported that some students realize their calling to be teachers after working for GEAR UP as tutors. Tutoring is currently Monday-Thursday from 3-4 in the commons. This year GEAR UP will also hire adult tutors to work with students in the areas of math, science and  English. These adult tutors will work before school from 6:45-7:45 a.m. as well as after school from 3-4 p.m.
