Strong winds have blown most of the smoke from Washington state. Air quality levels are between "good" and moderate" across the state, with the exception of "unhealthy" levels in Sunnyside and northern Washington along the Canadian boarder.

After a brief reprieve yesterday, smoke has returned to central and northern Washington. Wild fires in Vancouver, BC and Washington's Miriam fire is causing smoke to blanket Yakima and Ellensburg. The Washington State Health Department recommends staying indoors for areas experiencing "unhealthy" to "hazardous" air quality levels.

We had a brief window yesterday where the smoke lifted. Due to the fires buring around us in Canada and throughout Washington, smoke will continue to be an issue until there is substantial rainfall. How much and how bad will depend on fire activity and wind direction. While air quality levels are compromised, it's advised to limit outdoor activities and to wear a n95 mask. Free masks are still available at CWU's SURC Help Desk and the Student Medical & Counseling Center. Off campus locations include: Putnum Centennial Center in Cle Elum, the Ellensburg Senior Center, and the Kittitas County Public Health Department. Source: Seattle National Weather Service

The majority of Washington state's air quality remains "unhealthy" to "very unhealthy" due to smoke. Air quality has started to slowly improve this morning on the western peninsula. Continued improvement across most of the state is expected throughout the day and into Friday evening, though some smoke may linger.  Source:  National Weather Service Seattle
