Firefighters contain 100 acre fire off of I-90

Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a brush fire near milepost 123 on Interstate 90 at 11:50 a.m. Sunday.

According to KVFR Chief John Sinclair, Department of Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife, Yakima Training Center and the Department of Transportation responded to the fire.

About 50 firefighters from different agencies were on site at the height of the fire.

The fire started out as a small fire in the median which blew over to the north side of the freeway’s westbound lanes and got established.

At 3 p.m. the fire was at 100 percent containment with crews remaining on scene for mop-up.

Sinclair said the Bureau of Land Management has requested an investigator.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
