ELLENSBURG, Wash. (November 5, 2012) — The way Central Washington University students obtain financial support just got easier. Previously, students seeking loans, scholarships, or WorkStudy had to visit three separate offices. Now, services for all three are available from a centralized location: the Self-Help Office in Barge Hall 103.
“The Self-Help Office is here to help students with their loan, scholarship, and WorkStudy needs,” says Adrian Naranjo, associate director of the CWU Office of Financial Aid. “These funds are unique from general financial aid because students have to work for them. That’s why we chose the ‘Self-Help’ moniker; it’s on the student’s initiative to obtain these funds.”
Computer workstations are available weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., making the Self-Help Office a one-stop shop for finding financial support.
During the past year, the Financial Aid Office developed a way to merge loans, scholarships, and WorkStudy. The merger makes it so that more staff members know about each type of aid.
Having a knowledgeable staff in a single location eliminates unnecessary runaround for students and makes it easier for them to get the help that they need, says Naranjo.
