Yearlong Internship Information

Kittitas Valley Schools

The Yearlong Program is a field-based internship as part of the Teacher Certification Program for candidates at Central Washington University majoring in education. The program allows candidates to be in the classroom working with experienced teachers and their students for a full academic year. Candidates entering their senior/final year will complete courses related to their education major, the Professional Education Program sequence, two Practica involving active participation in classroom experiences, and the culminating Student Teaching experience their last quarter. Prerequisites

  • Majority of all Major/Minor/PEP courses completed based on program advising
  • Completed PEP sequence courses: EFC 210, 310, 315, 320, 330, and 340
  • Admission to Teacher Certification Program (Certification Office - Black Hall 228)
  • Valid fingerprints through entire yearlong experience
  • Student Teaching Application and requirements submitted by Dec. 1st

Fall Quarter: EDCS 492 Practicum (4 credits)

  • 5 weeks in 1st classroom and then (optionally) rotate into 2nd classroom
  • Minimum of 10 - 12 hours per week (2 hours/day) in the classroom
  • Classroom participation scheduled according to student's course schedule
  • Attend and complete CWU class schedule each quarter
  • Seminars/Meetings: One per month
  • Take 12-16 credits or 3 - 4 classes in Major, Minor, or PEP sequence in addition to Practicum

Winter Quarter: EDCS 492 Practicum (4 credits)

  • Rotate into 3rd classroom (optional/depending on school)
  • Repeat objectives/requirements of first quarter
  • Optional: Substitute EDEC 492/493 practicum if no other classes need to be taken

Spring Quarter: EFC 480 (16 credits)

  • EFC 480 Student teaching in one of the three classrooms observed
  • Guaranteed placement in Kittitas Valley

Repeatable for Credit: No       Grading Basis: S/U
