From pillowcases to dresses: Students make clothing for girls in Africa
By Shelly Zornes
Members of the Student Fashion Association recently gathered in the Central Washington University Sewing Lab to make dresses out of donated pillowcases for young girls in Africa.
The project was part of the "Dress a Girl around the World" campaign.
"Every little girl around the world deserves to feel special and unique," said Chelsea Feroglia, vice president of the Student Fashion Association.
"Being able to provide little girls around the world with their own unique dress is a very rewarding experience."
Students worked at various stations — similar to an assembly line — to create the garments.
"Our original goal was to collect and create 100 pillow case dresses," said Chelsea Feroglia, vice president of the Student Fashion Association.
"We far exceeded that number, and in fact we received even more than the 130 pillow cases we used, but some could not be used due to stains and tears.
"I think the most rewarding part was being able to see our club members come together for such a great cause and really work hard."
