2012-2013 Faculty Senate Standing Committee Charges

Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee

  • AAC12-13.01 Provide a year-end report to the Executive Committee by May 17, 2013

 

  • AAC12-13.02 Utilize the attached committee policy and procedures template to delineate policy and procedures of the Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee.

 

  • AAC12-13.03 Assure appropriate segregation of policy from procedure in Academic Life Policy 5-90 and translation of these policies and procedures are forwarded to the UPAC for consideration.

 

  • AAC12-13.04 Inform Senate of policy regarding student misconduct toward a faculty member, focus on the role and responsibility of the faculty member throughout the process.
  •  
  • AAC12-13.05  Review changes suggested in Admissions Policy 5-90-60 as submitted by the Admission's Office.  Disaggregate policy and procedures, and recommend action to be taken.

 

  • AAC12-13.06  Contribute to the discussion surrounding the study of a transition from Quarters to Semesters (Q2S).

 

Faculty Senate Bylaw & Academic Code Committee

  • BACC12-13.01  Provide a year-end report to the Executive Committee by May 17, 2013.

 

  • BACC12-13.02  Utilize the committee policy and procedures template to delineate policy and procedures of the Faculty Senate Bylaw and Academic Code Committee.

  • BACC12-13.03  Review Faculty Senate Bylaws and Academic Code.  Make sure that language is consistent and numbers correctly align in both documents.

 

  • BACC12-13.04  Continue to examine formerly Faculty Codes to see if there may be language that needs to be included in the current Academic Code.

 

  • BACC12-13.05  Resolve the disparity in Section V of the Academic Code, due to the partial acceptance of the BACC's recommendation in response to Charge

 

  • BACC12.03.  Parts A-D now include language concerning allegations of scholarly misconduct, but Parts E and F still concern only (other kinds of) disputes - not allegations of scholarly misconduct.

 

  • BACC12-13.06  Update Section V of the Academic Code to reflect suggestions made by Dispute Committee during Summer 2012.

 

  • BACC12-13.07  Update Section IV of the Faculty Senate Bylaws and Section IV D of the Academic Code to add Ex officio, non-voting, membership for Director of Academic Planning to Curriculum and General Education Committees.

 

  • BACC12-13.08  Evaluate Section VIII of the Faculty Senate Bylaws and Section F-K of the Academic Code.  Is due process required, and are minimum numbers appropriate for resulting actions.  Assure that segregation of policy from procedure occurs.

 

  • BACC12-13.09  Revise Faculty Senate Bylaws to reflect that any committee member who cannot attend a certain minimum percentage of the committee's meetings must consult with the committee chair to try to resolve the issue.  Further, it is suggested that a member who is repeatedly absent, but does not attempt a resolution, should be removed from the committee, and that a copy of the letter stating the removal should be sent to the member's department chair in documentation of the change to the individual's workload.  Assure the policy is segregated from procedure as this is explored.

 

  • BACC12-13.10  Review if Faculty Senate wishes the "Academic Code" to be re-titled the "Faculty Code".  Make recommendation to Senate.

 

  • BACC12-13.11  Contribute to the discussion surrounding the study of a transition from Quarters to Semesters (Q2S).

 

Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee

  • CC12-13.01  Provide a year-end report to the Executive Committee by May 17, 2013.

 

  • CC12-13.02  Utilize the committee policy and procedures template to delineate policy and procedures of the Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee.

 

  • CC12-13.03  Assure appropriate segregation of policy from procedure in Academic Life Policy 5-50 and translation of these policies and procedures are forwarded to the UPAC for consideration.

 

  • CC12-13.04  Liaise with the Director of Academic Planning to recommend an excellent electronic curriculum processing and routing package to utilize.

 

  • CC12-13.05  Continue to stay abreast of State Legislative guidelines for coordination of and recommendation for new programs of study post-HEC Board.  Develop appropriate templates to be utilized with input from the Director of Academic Planning and other stakeholders.  Submit forms as developed for approval through Senate and University channels.

 

  • CC12-13.06  Evaluate effectiveness of current "hold" policy and procedures.  Make recommendation for continued assessment and revision of this policy and these processes. Delineate and communicate to the Faculty Senate this process.

 

  • CC12-13.07  Contribute to the discussion surrounding the study of a transition from Quarters to Semesters (Q2S).

 

Faculty Senate General Education Committee

  • GE12-13.01  Provide a year-end report to the Executive Committee for business conducted AY 2012-2013 by May 17, 2013.

 

  • GE12-13.02 Provide a year-end report to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee for business conducted AY 2011-12.

 

  • GE12-13.03  Utilize the committee policy and procedures template to delineate policy and procedures of the Faculty Senate General Education Committee. 

 

  • GE12-13.04  Review current General Education policies 5-100.  Segregate policy from procedure, and update manuals as required.

 

  • GE12-13.05  Establish a timeline for progress during the year.

 

  • GE12-13.06  Make recommendations to the Senate for General Education content and process.  The Senate urges you to "play" with the possibilities of what a new General Education Program might look like.  You could devise a limited pilot program that can be phased in over several years to work as a parallel General Education track to beta test possible new program.  Ignite your passion for providing an excellent educational experience for all CWU students.
