We have contacts with a number of offices on campus as well as publishers, businesses that have technical writing divisions, and presses that are willing to help train interns who might be interested in entering this job market. An internship will give you valuable experience in a real-world, professional environment, and you will learn the practical skills necessary to succeed in jobs related to writing while earning credit from the university. Students with internships enroll in ENG 490, Cooperative Education, for up to 12 credits. (Credits are based on the number of hours you work in the internship.) The following are only a few of the internships available; we also encourage you to find internships in places that you might like to work. For advice about setting up an internship, email Lisa Norris in the CWU English Department at email@example.com. We will help you work out the details of the service learning agreement. Learning agreements can be found here.

HopeSource liaison at the Civic Engagement Center on Central’s campus. Maren Disney, one of our major who recently completed this internship, said “My main task was to recruit volunteers. I did this by e-mailing faculty and students, posting flyers, and utilizing any medium I could. I also had to address the needs of the organization, then create and post position descriptions on the CEC website and student intranet. I also helped organize fundraisers and large volunteer projects to serve the organization…Ultimately, the experience helped me gain business and communications skills, in addition to writing and editing skills… It helped me realize that the major I’ve chosen can be utilized in any setting and that the skills I’m gaining are extremely important and useful.”
