Hazel is the first student to graduate from the IEM degree program! (Class of 2017)
Specialization: Power Systems with a double major in Mechanical Engineering Technology
Hometown: Littlehampton, England. I grew up in the UK and moved to the US in 2007.
Why IEM? I have always known that I wanted a career related to helping the environment. I was particularly interested in how interdisciplinary the IEM major is. It combines environmental studies, geography, politics, economics, engineering, and a whole array of other areas of study, to give students a well-rounded approach with regards to enacting change upon the world around us.
Energy achievements: For my engineering senior project, I constructed a solar thermal collector.
(You can check out Hazel’s collector in the Hogue Technology Center and learn more about her design/engineering process HERE.) http://hazeltickner.wixsite.com/cwu-met
Shaping the future: My goal is to combine my two degrees by designing and engineering extremely energy efficient and sustainable buildings.
CWU activities: While at Central, I was a member of Central Environmental Club for four years. During that time, I was Vice President, Senator, and President for one year each. I was also the Secretary for the Mechanical Contractors’ Association for a year and a half.
Extreme hobby: Bungee jumping!
World travels: When we lived in England, I used to travel with my family a lot more. My favorite place that I have been to so far is definitely Crete, Greece.
