Debbie Thomas, secretary senior for mathematics, was named the January employee of the month for her long-time service to the department. According to her nominators, “We used to have a half-time assistant and a student assistant here in the mathematics department. “Because of budget cuts, Debbie has been doing it all in the third largest academic department on campus.
“She is always upbeat and does whatever task with a smile and enthusiasm. She even comes in on the weekends when necessary. “Cheerful to faculty and students alike, Debbie is irreplaceable.”
A 16-year employee of CWU, Thomas worked for athletics, alumni relations, development, and the CWU Foundation before finding a home in mathematics, where she has worked for eight years. She provides major administrative support for the eighteen tenured professors, four to seven adjuncts, and seven non-tenure-track professors. This includes class scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, and making travel arrangements. Formerly from Renton, Thomas is a graduate of Washington State University.
