Those nominating Marilyn said:
Employee of the Month Marilyn Mason, secretary senior, Geography, uses wit, humor, and charm to navigate Dean Hall’s third floor. According to her nominator, “In my academic and business careers, spanning forty-plus years, I have never worked with anyone so capable and able of managing all aspects of her job with the consistent grace and humor displayed by Marilyn Mason. She mentors and encourages all our majors, with particular support for women students, given our historic dearth of female faculty. “No matter the urgency or panic surrounding a last-minute task, Marilyn moves quickly and effectively to manage a solution . . . the more tense the situation, the more likely she will call upon her quiet humor to help all involved maintain perspective and move forward. “No matter the situation, she greets students, visitors and faculty as if they were the total reason for her to be in the front office. I have been told . . . on several occasions, what a pleasure it is to drop by our department. “Marilyn Mason has been the center of the department for well over a decade. She has been one stable element through swings through academic Hell and Paradise and somehow she has survived the proliferation of forms and complexity that can dominate all of our lives. Without her, all of our lives would be diminished.”
