If one word could describe April's Employee of the Month, it would be inclusion. Eric Scott, recreation and athletics specialist, works diligently to meet the ongoing recreation needs of CWU's students. His caring approach along with his quick wit helps him connect with, and understand student needs from all walks of life. Recently, Scott spearheaded an event to bring wheelchair basketball to campus. He worked closely with disability support services so that the junior Sonic wheelchair basketball team could compete against both the men's and women's varsity basketball teams. Before the event, he gave students an opportunity to try out the chairs and play mini-scrimmages with the athletes from the junior Sonics team. The event raised awareness and nurtured an atmosphere of inclusion on campus. Scott has also found a way to include students in the Asia University America Program who otherwise would not have a chance to compete within the intramural program. These students have a non-traditional class schedule which requires one group of students to leave halfway through winter quarter while a new group arrives mid-quarter. As a solution, Scott created unique leagues and activities that connected new students to the campus community while also giving students who were leaving an opportunity to stay engaged in student life. Scott is known not only for his innovation and creativity but also for his willingness to go beyond the norm to serve students and the greater Central community.
