Statement of Purpose and Operation
The basic purpose of the Employee Council shall be to provide civil service employees with a forum for sharing timely information and facilitating employee recognition.
The Employee Council does not perform any function of organized labor and is not intended in any way to supplant collective negotiations or employee organizations provided for in RCW 41.80.
A note from Dr. Cleary: Required Online DiversityEdu Training for Staff
"As you know, Central Washington University has a significantly diverse student body. Inclusion and diversity are priorities for CWU as identified in the President’s recent State of the University address, the CWU Strategic Plan, and the faculty forum held Fall 2016. In Fall Quarter 2015, students conducted a protest in the SURC to express some of their concerns about the campus climate, followed by meetings with the President and myself. Included in student concerns were examples that students felt a lack of inclusion in the classroom, on campus outside of the classroom, and in the community.
As a result, the university is providing online training in an effort to make CWU more responsive to the students we serve. DiversityEdu is a program that was developed by for the higher education environment, is research based, and bridges theory to practice. It helps provide the skills necessary for successful engagement with diversity.

Employee Council Goals and Objectives
Initiated by Employee Council, recognition will be given to employees who foster a personalized environment which supports members of the university community as well as the mission of Central Washington University. This award was created so that employees who go beyond their typical job responsibilities, who offer unique contributions to their work unit and/or the university as a whole, who have a significant positive impact on those they work with or come in contact with, and who consistently perform for the betterment of CWU could be recognized for their work.
Anyone may nominate an employee for this award. Award recipients will receive a $125 monetary award and award certificate presented by the CWU President and Employee Council Chair.
