Industrial Hygiene

[ EH & S Home ]

Introduction

According to the American Board of Industrial Hygeine "Industrial hygiene is the science of protecting and enhancing the health and safety of people at work and in their communities. Health and safety hazards cover a wide range of chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic stressors. Those dedicated to anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling those hazards are known as Industrial Hygienists. They are professionals dedicated to the well-being of people – at work, at home and in the community."

The University is committed to protecting its employees from environmental hazards that arise out of or during the course of employment.

CWU's industrial hygiene program deals with the recognition, evaluation, and control of environmental health hazards. The program provides industrial hygiene surveys, monitoring, consultation, and inspections. These services help control the recognized health hazards at CWU and identify new hazards as university operations change.

Please see the Programs and Plans page for more information about industrial Hygeiene programs at CWU.

For department specific plans, such as Chemical Hygeine plans (CHP), please contact the specific department that you would like to know more about.
